Cultivation of cardamom is mostly concentrated in the ever-green forests of the Western Ghats in South India.
It is used as a flavoring agent in whole and ground form in various kinds of dishes both traditional and modern including baked goods and confectionaries. It is also used in perfumery and Ayurvedic medicines.
